Cheek Implants
There are many reasons to have cheek augmentation (implants), however finding the right surgeon for an affordable cost is becoming more and more difficult. Most people are searching for a reasonably priced surgeon whom is well trained, board certified and who will deliver the best results based on their motivation and expectations of having this surgery.
Cheek implants can be via injections, which are sometimes temporary, or with surgical implants. Injections take only 15 minutes to an hour to administer, and the recovery is virtually instantaneous. Silicone, collagen, hydroxyapatite paste, PMMA, and other substances are used for injection.
The other, more structured and permanent solution is implantation of cheek implants. Allograft, Alpigraft, silicone, and other synthetic materials, or natural bone, tissue, or fat grafts may be inserted into the cheek to improve structure and appearance.
For implant surgery, after incision guides are drawn on the patient's face, sedation is administered. The procedure is usually performed in an outpatient surgery center or hospital. Surgery involves inconspicuous incisions in the ear, eye socket, or inner mouth. The cheek implant is strategically and securely positioned, and the surgeon sutures incisions.
Swelling and bruising subside in about 2 weeks, and patients see true results approximately 6 weeks after surgery. Patients can return to work in 7 to 10 days.
Cheek augmentation surgery has some risks, including infection, allergic reaction to the implant, loss of sensation, migration of the implant, malposition, bleeding, weakened muscles, bleeding, and over- or under-correction.
After surgery, a patient will need to elevate her head for the first 24 hours, apply ice packs, and wear the provided bandages or garments. A liquid diet and wearing button-down shirts minimize potential aggravation of the healing cheeks. Bandages can be replaced as needed for the first week following surgery.
