Eyelifts are used for many reasons, including to remove wrinkles, bags or to remove excess skin around the eye area. Since the eyes are such a sensitive area, it is important to find the best surgeon, based on your needs and expectations. Minimal criteria for such a surgeon should include good training, board certification, and finding a surgeon that will take their time and make sure that you get the best results possible for a decent price. That is hard to find nowadays in the US when plastic surgeons don't even need to be US Boarded to perform such surgeries.

Procedure Details

Eyelid surgery, also known as an eye tuck or blepharoplasty, is a procedure to remove excess fat, skin, and muscle from upper and lower eyelids. Extra tissue around the eye can inhibit vision and make a person appear older. Eyelid surgery will help decrease the appearance of puffy or baggy eyelids, but it will not remove crows feet or wrinkles around the eyes. Other cosmetic surgeries can help with these problems, and your surgeon will be able to help you decide which procedures would be most beneficial for your situation and the look you want to achieve.

Your surgeon will perform standard vision tests and check your tear production. During surgery, if you only need to have excess fat removed from your eyelids, an incision will be made along the inside of the eye from which fat will be extracted.

To remove excess skin or muscle tissue from other portions of the eye area, an incision will be made on the exterior of the eyelid, following its natural contour.

Excess tissue will be trimmed and discarded. Tiny sutures will be applied to close the incisions.

Risks and Side Effects

Swelling and bruising may last a month. Activities such as reading and television viewing can be resumed in 3 days. Contacts should not be worn for 2 weeks. Patients can return to work and other normal activities in approximately 10 days.

Temporary double or blurred vision may result, but it will subside in a few days. Risks include asymmetry, scarring, whiteheads at suture sites, problems closing the eyes, or ectropion.

Post Operative Care

Your eyes will be coated with lubricating eye ointment and wrapped with bandages immediately following surgery. Elevate your head for several days during recovery and apply cold compresses to reduce swelling. Your surgeon may prescribe antibiotics and pain medication.

Your eyes will be bruised and swollen for up to a month, and they may feel itchy, gummy, dry, or sensitive to light or wind for several days. Follow eye cleaning instructions to minimize risk of infection, and use prescribed eye drops to alleviate dry eye
